AIM:
Regionalism is a term that relates to architectural traits of buildings
that are common to a particular location. The Queensland Vernacular is
a type of regionalism belonging to the area of Queensland. Some typical
characteristics of a "Queenslander" house are single skin or
lightweight timber construction, large shaded verandahs, elevated off
the ground and the "tin" roof. These architectural elements
are directly related to the building responding to the Queensland climate.
The Healthy Home takes the climatic response of the traditional "Queenslander"
as the basis for the architectural design. The house is able to open up,
interact with the climate and allows the users to experience the external
environment.
