ELEMENT:

Sensors

AIM:

To identify areas of the Healthy Home design that have been successful, and areas that can be improved in future urban developments the Department of Natural Resources and Mines and the University of Queensland have carried out detailed monitoring of the Healthy Home.

STRATEGY:

Detailed Monitoring

To quantify the improvements in energy efficiency, reduction in water use and occupant comfort brought about the improved ecological design of the Healthy Home, sensors were installed at a number of locations at the Healthy Home. The sensor installed include:

  • 6 Kent KSS Water Meters
  • 9 PSM Water Meters
  • 5 Ampy Electrical Power Meters
  • 9 Type T Thermocouple Temperature Sensors
  • 2 Vaisalla Humidity Sensors
  • Weather Station: 0.5mm Tipping Bucket rain gauge, Anemometer, Pyranometer
  • 7 Toroid Apparent Electrical Current Sensors
  • 1 Greenspan Pressure Transducer (to measure the depth of water in the rainwater tank)

The sensors are connected to a Campbell Datalogger located in the laundry. For more information on the datalogger see the Campbell Datalogger information page.
