ELEMENT:

Stramit Zincalume corrugated roof sheeting
Eaves, gutters and flashings with Colorbond finish

AIM:

Steel sheeting is a lightweight and versatile building material which makes it easy to handle and install. The surface of the roof is suitable for the collection of rainwater to a quality that is drinkable.

STRATEGY:

Rainwater Collection

Corrugated steel roof sheeting is hard wearing, corrosion resistant and has a very good product life span.

The installation of the roof is aided by the versatility of the easily handled, light weight steel sheeting.

The surface of the roof is suitable for collecting rainwater of a quality that is drinkable.

Minimise the Use of New Resources

The roof structure is made from 70% recycled members which reduces the overall embodied energy (initial energy) of the house.

Conserving Energy

The operational energy (energy expended during the life of the house) is also reduced by the ability of the roofing to moderate the internal temperatures. The demand on electricity is reduced as the need for heaters or fans to heat or cool the house is modified.

A combination of bulk and foil insulation ensures that heat can be reflected away from the house (desirable in summer) or held within the house for a longer period of time (for winter heating).

The roof surface is a light colour which reduces the absorption of heat from the sun into the steel sheeting. Sunlight is reflected from the surface rather than being absorbed.
