ELEMENT:
Geberit HTPE pipes for waste water
Aquatherm Fusiotherm Polypropylene hot and cold water supply pipes
AIM:
Polyethylene is a simple compound of carbon and hydrogen atoms that is
harmless to living things. High density polyethylene (HDPE) is a durable
material that ensures the safe removal of waste water from the house for
life.
Polypropylene (PP) is a hard wearing material that is non corrosive.
The installation of the pipe work is simple and accurate because of the
small amount of devices needed to install the system.
STRATEGY:
Environmentally Safer Materials
The production of HDPE from the manufacture of the raw materials, manufacture
of pipes and the disposal of the pipes has a low ecological impact when
compared to other alternative standard pipe materials. The environmental
impact is measured in environmental points (UP) by the regulations of
the Swiss Federal Office of Environment, Forest and Countryside (BUWAL)
publication series 132 and 133. For 1 meter of 110mm diameter pipe the
environmental impact of HDPE (1 000 UP) is favorable against cast iron
(over 6 000 UP) and PVC (nearly 2 000 UP).
HDPE consumes much smaller quantities of energy during the fabrication
process and transportation of the material than alternatives such as steel
or copper pipes.
HDPE does not release harmful chemicals when incinerated as opposed to
PVC pipes which release hydrochloric acid during their disposal.
