ELEMENT:
Permaculture Garden, Indigenous Species of Vegetation
AIM:
The aims of the landscaping were focused on reducing the need for water
to maintain the vegetation. In considering species of plants the use of
native plant species was favourable as there is a decreased demand for
irrigation. Also native plants attract fauna and compliment the landscape.
A recycled tyre subsurface drip filter irrigation system in the garden
minimises water usage for maximum benefit and may be connected to the
grey water system in the future.
Rock paths, linking balconies, meander through a permaculture garden
that provides fresh herbs and fruit. The free form rock paving and pebbles
used in the landscaping have a low environmental impact and are functional,
durable, low maintenance and have low embodied energy. These materials
are readily available, recyclable and cost effective.
