Roof Gutters

ELEMENT:

Smartflo self-cleaning zincalume roof gutters

AIM:

As part of the strategy to minimise the use of mains water at the Healthy Home two rainwater tanks have been installed. To maintain its suitability for human consumption in the Healthy Home, the rainwater is kept as clean as possible.

The self-cleaning gutters are used as part of the strategy to maintain clean rainwater, by decreasing the amount of debris that collects in the gutters during and between rainfall events.

STRATEGY:

Maintain Rainwater Quality

The gutters are used to collect rainwater and direct it to the rainwater tanks. The gutters are made from high quality Stramit zincalume with a Colourbond finish, which will resist corrosion and have a long life. Corroded and dirty gutters will reduce the quality of collected rainwater.

The gutters are designed to be self-cleaning, which results in a reduction of the material that builds up in the gutters during rainfall events. Gutter guards are an alternative technology that can fitted to existing gutters to reduce the amount of debris collected. A range of gutter guards, self-cleaning gutters and gutter storages devices are available (see the Steps to Sustainability pages for more information).

Self-cleaning gutters and gutter guards are best used in conjunction with a fully planned rainwater collection system, including first flush diverters, filters and a UV disinfection system.
