AIM:

Rainwater collected directly from the roof is usually unfit for drinking, as it can be contaminated with bacteria and other debris. Before it is used in the house it is filtered and disinfected.

The rainwater is disinfected using a UV lamp disinfection system. The water is filtered before it is pumped through the UV lamp, otherwise dirt and dust particles may stop the UV light from the lamp killing the bacteria. The light from the UV lamp kills 99.9% of the bacteria in the rainwater, which left untreated, may make the occupants of the home ill.
