The Healthy Home Project aims to demonstrate how a new, suburban house can achieve a high level of environmental sustainability by employing environmental strategies in any aesthetically pleasing design. The design process was collaborative and involved a wide range of project partners who provided expertise with respect to strategies such as improved air quality, passive solar design, energy production, partial self sufficiency in water and energy, reduced energy and water usage and the selection of low energy materials. The project challenges existing norms of house design and legislation concerning the on-site reuse of resources such as water and the collection, purification and use of rainwater.
