ELEMENT: Kennedy's Classic Aged Structural Timber Members AIM: The structure supporting the lower and upper floors is a mix of recycled hardwood timber members and 'I' section timber beams. The timber 'I' beams are in the shape of a capital I. The horizontal parts of the I are made from laminated veneer lumber (LVL) whilst structural plywood forms the vertical part of the I. The two materials work together to give a very straight and uniform beam. The timber 'I' beams use 44% less wood than the equivalent solid wood floor joist. This means that by using recycled timber and 'I' section timber for the structural support for the floors, there is a reduction in the demand for native forest timbers.
