ELEMENT: Tasbeam Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) timber portal frame with steel dowel and epoxy jointing AIM: The portal frame structural system provides the primary building structure for the Healthy Home. The primary structure takes all of the bearing loads from the roof and upper floors, and provides the structural stability of the house. This means that the external and internal walls do not add to the structural stability of the building. Walls, windows and doors can therefore be positioned with a large degree of flexibility to give large openings, which help with the ventilation and daylighting in the house. The portal frames are produced in a factory which gives a high quality result. The frames are erected on-site quickly and easily. The roof can be completed early which provides protection from the environment during construction for the house and the builders. The timber members of the portal frames are made from laminated veneer lumber (LVL). LVL timber uses small pieces of plantation timber laminated together with glue. Click here for Technical Detail. |
